Jackson Township's Public Works Department has a crew of employees who perform tasks related to the maintenance of Township roadways, storm water facilities, Township building, equipment, and Township recreational facilities as well as plowing and winter maintenance activities.
Bridge Construction Notice
Beginning Wednesday, May 20, PennDOT will be conducting work on the State Route (SR) 19 bridge (North Main Street).
During this project, the northbound traffic will be open, and the southbound lane will be closed. Detours will be posted for southbound traffic.
Both lanes of travel, north and south, are scheduled to be open for the Independence Day festivities, July 2-5. Southbound traffic will be detoured again starting July 6. This project is scheduled to be completed on August 21, 2026, at which time both lanes of travel will be opened.
Southbound traffic and all vehicles exceeding 10 tons will be detoured to Little Creek Road, I-79 South, to exit 85 (SR 19 North) (pictured above left).
*Please Note: This is a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) project. Please get in touch with PennDOT with any questions or comments.
East Kaufman Road Traffic Restrictions/Franklin Road Corridor Waterline Project Update
Crews will be on site on East Kaufman Road (between Walnut Lane and Franklin Road) beginning Wednesday, May 20, for the Franklin Road Corridor Waterline Project.
Road closures are not anticipated, but lane restrictions may be in place.
This portion of the project is expected to be completed by June 19 (weather permitting).
Please be advised that Jackson Township and the Jackson Municipal Authority (JMA) will communicate with residents who may wish to tap in in the upcoming months. The system will be operational by late 2026 or early in 2027.
Seal Coating
Russell Standard will be seal coating, to provide a layer of protection and extend the life of the asphalt, on Fanker Road, High Acres Road and Wise Road, beginning Monday, May 18 (weather-permitting).
Mercer Road & SR 19
The Township’s contractor has completed line striping to provide for a turning lane southbound on SR 19 to Mercer Road in accordance with PennDot approvals. The current connection has been blockaded and will be closed permanently now that the improvements are complete. The new turning movement is designed to enhance safety by providing a dedicated turning lane and slowing traffic exiting onto a largely residential portion of Mercer Road.
Projects for the 2026 year include:
- Franklin Road Corridor Waterline Project
- Sippel Reservoir Park Community Center
- German Street Stormwater Mitigation
- Additional speed humps
- Tar, chip and seal on various roads
Each year, the Public Works Department completes winter maintenance training. In addition, they perform dry runs, prep trucks and purchase salt in the preparation for snow removal in the winter. Jackson Township plows snow on all Township owned roads. State roads are maintained by PennDOT*.
*State Route (SR) 528, Lindsay Road, within Jackson Township is and continues to be a State Road, maintained by PennDOT. With the assistance and support of PennDOT
Butler County Maintenance and our municipal services representative from PennDOT District 10, the Township has formalized an agreement by which we are paid for and assume winter maintenance responsibilities. Given PennDOT‘s need to focus on main roads and stretched resources, the Township is happy to provide local winter maintenance on Lindsay Road. The hope is for the Jackson Township’s Public Works Department to provide a more timely response and level of service, given the active local winter maintenance of the surrounding road network.

Finally, here are a few reminders for residents during inclement weather:
- To avoid interference with the plow trucks, do not park on the streets in housing developments or on any roadways. Also, please remove all basketball hoops from
roads and cul de sacs. - When removing snow from your driveway, please do not throw it in the street. Instead, shovel snow on the opposite side of the snowplow’s approach. (On a standard street, this would be on the right side of your driveway as you face the road).
- On days with lots of snowfall, if you are able, please stay home and off the main roadways
